Profile photo of Arun Muradnar Arun Muradnar
  • Hello friends, i know everyone is quite busy with last round of revision + practice of tests. But, why do we want to come with last round revision of Current Affairs?
Yes, last few years’ question paper analysis could be a part of your answer.
So,here a Effective Civilsdaily Team – (@simran-bains, @hereisshrishty, @kunalaggarwal , @jayanshsingh22, @pranavce15 , @ayushi-gupta , @mohitraj and all other aspirants including you), would list out all relevant and most important current affairs topics from August 2016 to May 2017 under each subject head.
This initiative would create list of important topics and we just have to google them for more info. Hope everyone would share a helping hand to each other to crack 2017 prelims.
    Let’s start then.

Hello, friends, I had a doubt regarding a question related to based on the definition of state
Which authority does not come under the definition of the state as per Article 12?
    a) sbi
    b) sail
    c) bcci
    d) Lic

according to the definition of art 12
state means financially, functionally or administratively dominated by the Government
so answer would be C i.e BCCI it’s not financially, functionally or administratively dominated by the Government
    BT recently
based on the justice Lodha recommendations sc appoints administrators to the BCCI
That means BCCI is lost its financial and functional autonomy as it has in the past
    so my doubt was
now, what was the status of BCCI Is it state or private organisation under societies as it before?
    please guys clarify it

    • Profile photo of Mohit Raj Mohit Raj @mohitraj

      Hiii…Mr Satish
      Good question…!!
As per my knowledge, COA were appointed by Apex court not by Govt of the day. You are right BCCI has to ask first then can take any decisions but still BCCI has their authority- Ex. Recently BCCI cancelled the new contract of costly trolley bags for players from their own. Appointed COAs are not permanent in nature ,they are there for just make BCCI to fall in line.
Now, What I feel and even learnt that, As the case is still in court of law UPSC will never ask any questions untill everything is crystal clear. So, Don’t worry .
      I hope,u r answered. Thanks

      Important one. Bookmarked.

    • Profile photo of Jayansh Singh Jayansh Singh @jayanshsingh22

Good one, Simran. It would be useful to know difference between fluorescence and bioluminescence (former caused because of re-emission of light at a different wavelength and latter due to a chemical reaction). Maybe it’s a bit of a stretch but one never knows. 🙂 Polka-dot tree frog isn’t bioluminescent. I didn’t know this myself sometime back.

    • Profile photo of Arun Muradnar Arun Muradnar @arunmuradnar65

I have covered question on fluorescence,in prelims daily 17 March.
      Link – http://www.civilsdaily.com/topic/17-march-2017-prelims-daily-with-previous-year-questions-tikdams/

Important Note: Many ocean creatures exhibit fluorescence, including corals, fish, sharks and one species of sea turtle. On land, fluorescence was previously known in only parrots and some scorpions.

    • Profile photo of Jayansh Singh Jayansh Singh @jayanshsingh22

Yes, you did. 🙂 Back then I didn’t know the difference between bioluminescence and biofluorescence so mentioned it above.

      Was asked in Prelims, 2012.
      Q. What is the difference between the antelopes Oryx and Chiru?
      (a) Oryx is adapted to live in hot and arid areas whereas Chiru is adapted to live in steppes and semi-desert areas of cold high mountains
      (b) Oryx is poached for its antlers whereas Chiru is poached for its musk
      (c) Oryx exists in western India only whereas Chiru exists in north-cast India only
      (d) None of the statements (a), (b) and © given above is correct

Right answer is the first option.

    Hello everyone….
    Guys dnt go randomly….
Mark days for specific topics. Like next 5-7 days for polity then next 5-7 for economy and so on…
By this we will end up by covering CA topicwise and completely in one go otherwise each day new topics will pop up…and many of us will miss them surely
I hope there will be no issue regarding that….
    Thnks

    • Profile photo of Butterfly Butterfly @sunita-khola

      Hi kavi
Yes it’s a good idea to complete all relevant current affairs

    • Profile photo of Arun Muradnar Arun Muradnar @arunmuradnar65

      Hi, Kavi
Actually, this is really good idea.
But, we have already opened up many topics,we are adding new topics under headers.
Scroll down to read headers and topics.
      And keep add into that.
      🙂

    • Profile photo of Rishi ranjan Rishi ranjan @rishiranjan04

Hi Arun, I believe we can still start allocating one day to a particular subject. Even from now onwards. That will help everybody approach this in a streamlined manner. We’ll atleast be able to figure out subject wise important CA and then add anything missing there. We can decide the day and topic on mutual consensus and then start doing again. What do others have to say about this?

    • Profile photo of Arun Muradnar Arun Muradnar @arunmuradnar65

Okay, then if that would be the interest then we should try that.
      Lets take views from –
      Simran,Jayansh,Mohit,Kunal,Shrishty,and others?

    • Profile photo of Srishty Arun Srishty Arun @hereissrishty

Yeah we can do that. So we could put them under headers of POLITY including schemes & policies, ECONOMY, HISTORY & CULTURE, GEOGRAPHY, ENVIRONMENT & ECOLOGY, SCI & TECH and MISCELLANEOUS. And, under each we can include relevant international organisations, conventions and reports. Sounds good?

    • Profile photo of Arun Muradnar Arun Muradnar @arunmuradnar65

      Yes,good idea shrishty.
Then, take a lead to decide subject daywise.
And daily post subject so,others can follow.
      So,today?
      🙂

    • Profile photo of Srishty Arun Srishty Arun @hereissrishty

Let’s go ahead in the same order then. Polity for 04th May 🙂

    • Profile photo of Arun Muradnar Arun Muradnar @arunmuradnar65

      That’s great!
Shrishty, can you do one thing?
At the end of the day, please collate/integrate all topics under one head(say,Polity).
Just copy-paste it,for easier reading to other aspirants at one place.
Can it be possible for you?

As Clean Environment Cess is mentioned above, for revision purpose, I’m adding differences between cess and surcharge here itself.

Cess is levied by the government for a specific purpose and goes to a specific fund whereas surcharge is imposed for a general purpose, goes to the Consolidated Fund of India and may be used by the government to reduce the fiscal deficit. Both cesses and surcharges are temporary in nature and are not shared with state governments (against the spirit of co-op federalism? Very much so).
