A shot in the arm for coastal security as Shoor arrives

  1. Context: An advanced new ship of the Indian Coast Guard arrived at Mangaluru
  2. Shoor: 105-m long, an offshore patrol vessel, 5th ship of Coast Guard based in Mangaluru
  3. It already has four fast patrol vessels ship
  4. Advantage: Can carry a helicopter, a single engine Chetak helicopter & pollution response equipments
  5. It carries five high speed boats
  6. A 30 mm CRN 91 Navan gun fitted in the ship could fire up to a distance of 8 km
  7. Fitted with advanced navigation, communication equipment sensors & machinery
