Union govt. has proposed a revised minimum wage for tea garden workers in West Bengal.
- The State and the Union govt will take steps to reopen tea gardens in West Bengal.
- They will also ensure that non–functional or abandoned tea gardens function properly.
- There are about a dozen closed tea gardens in the region and about 22 of the gardens are either abandoned or non functional.
- A majority of the workers accepted the government’s offer for a minimum wage of about Rs. 250.
