Regional languages are the lynchpin to India’s Internet boom

  1. Rural web access will grow on availability of content in regional languages.
  2. By 2018, approximately half the users will reside in smaller towns and villages and will access the Internet through local languages.
  3. The Indian languages account for less than 0.1% content on the worldwide Web.
  4. This could change rapidly as companies are investing heavily in building up the Indian language Internet.
  5. Last year, Google India initiated an Indian Language Internet Alliance, a group of companies who will help push regional language content online.
