In a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country like India with a dualistic society and economy, most of the violence arises due to conflict of interest. Comment.(250 words)

India is a home to almost every religion in the world and various ethnic groups with different customs and languages. When so many type of religious or ethnic or different customs people live together, the difference in opinion and worldview cause conflict at
times.

The presence of such conflicts, however, is not an issue as every mixed society is bound to have them, but it the way in which such conflicts are resolved that distinguish a developed society from a backward one. India also has faced such issues and sometimes they result in violence too, which certainly undermines the progress and cohesion that India has achieved so far since independence.

Some of the reasons that are responsible for such conflicts are:
Lack of Uniform Civil Code, i.e. Modern state should govern all its citizen equally with same set of law, this creates a sense of equity within them, however, the presence of different set of laws emboldens people to believe that their worldview is correct and they should work towards its further acceptability for the larger society.
Failure in destroying caste identities, Scheduled Caste people were generally considered as untouchable in India’s history and this notion is still alive in society, especially in rural areas. The upper caste people didn’t like to share public places and food with SC people and many a times, it results into a violent conflict.
Religious Patronization by the State: in India, State is not completely separated from religion, even though we adopted a secular constitution. Sometimes, state adopts a policy which favors one religion or even its backward practices, for example, Shah Bano judgement of SC was reversed to appease radical sections among Muslims. Many states have banned beef, in order to appease radical Hindu community.

While conflicts are bound to happen, it is important that people have faith in law and order and for that state has to fulfill its role without any partiality and with utmost urgency, so that people do not take law in their hands and conflicts are resolved peacefully.
