A wrong approach is a mistake but its repetition is criminal.
What makes Swati Sharma a winner? Did she also fail? How did she manage herself between her failures? How did she manage to clear all the Prelims she appeared in?
It all boils down to the definition of failure for an individual. The difference between average people and achieving people is their perception of and response to failure. So as a simple deduction, what makes Swati different is her overall attitude towards failure. In fact, it is one of respect, being the most effective teacher.
Swati’s first two callings ( first 2 prelims )
Many would not be surprised to learn that Swati who scored rank 17 in 2019 and before that was already into central civil services, has had a couple of failures too. That too in the first stage itself. That makes a three years long huddle before which she could have written mains.
These three years could be called her biggest teachers. Provided she is able to maintain calm and consistency. Like I said before, some fundamentals could not be changed about UPSC Civil Services. It requires you to fall within the guardrails of Hard work, Patience, Perseverance and Consistency. Over the syllabus, you need to timely cover.
What kept her motivation level high
That brings us to the motivation level. To begin with, we have pumping pows. But when you think of your BIG goal, sometimes you start feeling overwhelmed. Why? Because big goals don’t get achieved right away Instead, you need to create mini-goals to help excite you along the way. This way you can be more goal-orientated and build a habit of being more effective.
Maybe you break your goal down to 10 small-sized goals with tasks that get you on track to achieve them. There could be many ways including having someone who helps you trigger the best in you by helping unblock your huddles. You better are hopeful, to begin with!
