What is OCI (Overseas Citizen of India)
- A form of long-term visa status for persons of Indian origin

- Earlier eligibility: Up to 4th generation
- Now extended to: 5th and 6th generation (Sri Lanka specific)

How “Generation” is counted
It is counted family-wise (lineage):
- 1st generation → Person born in India (original ancestor)
- 2nd generation → Child of that person
- 3rd generation → Grandchild
- 4th generation → Great-grandchild
- 5th generation → Next generation after that
- 6th generation → Further descendant
